Books, Coffee, & Tea: Pairings for Readers
1. Funny Story by Emily Henry & Milky Chai Latte
Though I am certainly a fan of all things Emily Henry, Funny Story ranks supreme for me. And that’s not just as far as Emily Henry books go, either. So, when I dreamed up this blog post, I knew this book would have to open it up.
Anyway, Funny Story has all of Emily Henry’s trademark wit and emotional resonance. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll use up at least one highlighter and set of tabs when annotating the physical book (I prefer these tabs).
As such, this book calls for a cozy drink, and what better choice than the tea favored by the book’s heroine, Daphne? A fan of chai teas and chai lattes, Daphne narrates at one point: “This is as close as I get to life on the edge: a milky tea and a near-white rug.”
This cinnamon and vanilla chai from Whittard (one of my favorite tea brands!) seems right up Daphne’s alley, making it the perfect book and tea pairing for Funny Story! The warm spices balanced with the vanilla make this the perfect drink for a story that feels like a hug in book form.

2. Scot and Bothered by Alexandra Kiley & Whisky Black Tea
For fans of contemporary romance and Scottish lore, Alexandra Kiley’s Scot and Bothered is the perfect mix of both. This book tells the story of Jack Sutherland and Brooke Sinclair, friends-to-lovers-to-enemies who went to the University of Edinburgh together. Years after they graduated, they are paired up for an important project that forces them to traverse the rugged Skye Trail.
In keeping with the Scottish theme, this Whisky Tea from Whittard checks all the boxes. A rich loose leaf black tea, this blend features the flavors of fine Scottish whisky alongside heather petals as a hint of the highlands, making it the perfect pairing for a book about finding one’s self on the Isle of Skye.

3. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab & London Fog Latte
A lyrical story spanning centuries, cities, and fleeting memories, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is atmospheric and bittersweet in all the best ways. This book had been on my TBR for some time, and when it came up on Kindle Unlimited, it only took a few chapters for me to fall in love with the story. While Addie, herself, is doomed to be forgotten, her poignant story will linger with you regardless.
With that in mind, I thought a London Fog was the perfect drink to pair with this book. A London Fog is an earl grey tea latte with steamed milk and vanilla (here’s a recipe). These drinks are absolutely delightful, featuring a delicate and dreamy flavor that perfectly aligns with this book’s effervescence. The book and the drink just might inspire some introspective journaling of your own!

P.S. if you want the London Fog flavor without the milk, check out this London Fog tea blend, available in sachets or as loose leaf tea.
4. Haunted Ever After by Jen DeLuca & Pumpkin Spice Coffee
A delightful rom com set in a haunted little beach town in Florida, Haunted Ever After finds protagonist Cassie taking refuge in her local coffee shop — Hallowed Grounds — because her new home mysteriously won’t let her charge her laptop. So, obviously, this quirky and spooky themed romance was made for a book and coffee pairing!
Bones Coffee Company makes a Pumpkin Spice flavored coffee, which is just perfect for this book set in Boneyard Key. Whether you brew this for drip hot coffee or iced, this flavorful roast will add some caffeinated and cozy whimsy to this fun read, no matter what time of the year!

5. Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross & Rose Black Tea
A beautifully written wartime romance set in an alternate reality that looks a bit like ours, Divine Rivals blends poetry and fantasy with just a splash of dark academia (there are magical typewriters, after all).
Filled with flowery language and emotive protagonists you’ll come to love, an English Rose black tea is the perfect book and tea pairing for Divine Rivals. Full of bold, romantic flavors with a floral finish, this tea mirrors the story and Ross’ writing beautifully. Regardless of whether you drink it hot or iced, this pairing might just inspire you to do some writing of your own!
