A while back, I had started to make cute crochet coaster sets out of a cotton, absorbent yarn. I made probably ten or so sets and largely used them for gifts for friends and family (spoiler alert: will probably continue to do so going forward). I wrap them with a little yarn or ribbon bow and they make great gifts.

As with all my crochet projects, I made a bunch, had an idea for another project, and switched gears either to Cat Mats or full sized blankets again. However, when preparing for the hurricane about two weeks ago, I came across a bunch of my favorite coaster-making yarn, picked up my crochet coaster pattern, and felt inspired to pick this project up again.

Why I Love to Make Crochet Coaster Sets

Like with Cat Mats, I love to make these cute crochet sets because they really mesh with my attention span. Generally, I can crochet a set or a set and a half a night, but if I’m not feeling super into it at a time, it’s easy to make one and put it aside. This is, fundamentally, why I love to make Cat Mats. These are fun, colorful, and relatively quick projects that I can finish and feel accomplished.

Why Crochet Coasters Are Great

My crochet coaster sets are durable and easy to clean, making them a low-maintenance item. Technically the lighter weight yarn is machine washable, but I find them easier to just hand wash and lay flat to dry on top of a towel or wash cloth. If they are folded up and become creased, simply stick a book on top of them to flatten them out. Really, they add a pop of color without requiring any real attention or care.
