Easy Accessories: Belts for Jeans and Dresses

Easy Accessories are Key

As much as I love a detailed top or dress, most of my style revolves around relatively neutral pieces. Jeans and a t-shirt are a go-to for me, and I like to find little ways to bolster an otherwise-simple outfit when I’m looking to be extra comfortable or low-key. Belts allow for easy customization in an outfit, whether you go with a classic black, neutral camel, or something else entirely. I particularly love to wear belts with jeans and a simple top, but they can also be a great addition for dresses.

The Cost Question

Belts are one area of my wardrobe that I have really started to shift gears with. Previously, I’d love a fun low-cost and colorful option that started to fall apart after a season. Even still, I think there is a time and place for fun fast-fashion-type pieces.

However, when I found myself lusting after a black Gucci belt — I mean, I spent a few months staring at them before I splurged — I decided to listen to my intuition. Was it more money than I’d prefer to pay for a black belt? Yeah. Could I have put that money towards student loans? Sure. Would I buy it again? Yup.

My point is this: spend money on staple pieces of your wardrobe that matter and that will last. While there are probably more low-key wardrobe staple pieces than a Gucci belt to go for, you have to listen to your gut a bit with this stuff. In short, I think it’s worthwhile to invest in quality pieces, things you’ll keep for years, and that won’t end up in a landfill in two seasons’ time.

The Best Belts for Jeans and Dresses

Most of my recommendations for the best belts for jeans and dresses are pretty neutral, but I threw in a leopard print and a couple colors for good measure. Madewell has some amazing affordable options, so if you’re looking for a good staple piece, I’d suggest starting there. If you’re looking for something a bit more fun, perhaps try a soft pink or blue suede. I’ve been really into leopard print lately, so the silver-buckled leopard option is really calling my name, as is the Zimmermann link belt in a pinkish-tan, which offers style while still being simple.
