The Flamingo Flea in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

The Flamingo Flea

This past weekend, Brett and I took a trip to Fort Lauderdale’s Tarpon River Brewing for the first Flamingo Flea. This was our first time trying out the brewery, so it was an adventure all around.

I always loved going to the Indie Flea in Gainesville, so I was immediately drawn to this more-local event. The Indie Flea, which is based in Tampa, always has fun crafty wares, like beer bottle candles and specialty jewelry, along with food and music.

The Flamingo Flea lived up to my expectations, and then some. There were a whole bunch of creators — their instagram said there were over 45 vendors. The products ranged from decorated insulated drink tumblers, to crochet stuffed animals, to succulent arrangements.

When Brett and I arrived, we were surprised at the number of people in attendance. The Flea coordinators did a really good job getting the word out.

The brewery was packed with patrons and — more importantly — puppers. We saw no less than 15 dogs at the event, which was wonderful.

It was a beautiful day out, warm but not hot — basically, perfect brewery weather. The brewery managed to keep the building pretty comfortable with all the people. This was pretty impressive based on the size of the place.

All in all, we had a great time wandering through the little shop stalls with a tasty IPA. Tarpon River Brewing has a restaurant, along with the bar. We indulged in some sweet potato fries and falafel after we finished looking around. At first, we ordered IPA mac ‘n cheese to share instead of the falafel, but the Flea was so popular that they had sold out!

I can’t wait for the next Flamingo Flea!
