On Swann: Seasonal New American Cuisine in Tampa, Florida

Hyde Park’s On Swann Restaurant

When Brett and I moved to Tampa, we made a concerted effort to really explore the different new neighborhoods around us. One of our first stops was to check out Hyde Park Village, an open-air shopping street with restaurants and shops. We stopped at On Swann for brunch and had a great meal. Focusing on seasonal New American cuisine prepared in an open-concept kitchen, On Swann is a cute restaurant, perfect for date night or drinks with friends, and features a wide ranging menu. In short, On Swann is definitely one of the best restaurants in Hyde Park, Tampa, and well worth your time!

This review is part of my Tampa City Guide, which is full of the best of the best that Tampa Bay has to offer. Check out the full guide here for all of my favorite eateries, coffee shops, breweries, and more!

On Swann’s Local Focus

This restaurant focuses on offering local and small-batch ingredients — and beer — to make delicious comfort-food-adjacent meals. On Swann features delicious breads from Jamison B. Breadhouse Bakes, for example, and First Leaf Farm Microgreens, both based in the greater Tampa area. I’m excited to have learned about First Leaf Farm, since I love to use microgreens in my own cooking. I had a great IPA from Green Bench Brewing, made in nearby St. Petersburg Beach. They also offer authentic Viennese coffee from Julius Meinli Coffee.

The Atmosphere at On Swann

Overall, the restaurant was comfortable, featuring a farmhouse inspired design. Think about Anthropologie and West Elm mixed together in a restaurant (particularly apt, since both stores can be found in Hyde Park Village). The restaurant was pretty busy when we got there around 1 PM on Saturday’s but we got a table straight away.

On Swann offers a large dining room, along with numerous bar seats and outdoor seating as well.

What We Tried

When Brett and I stopped at On Swann, the restaurant was serving their brunch menu. Brett tried their French Toast, featuring candied pecans, Nutella, bacon, and bourbon maple syrup. I opted for an open-faced salmon sandwich with pickled vegetables and some truly delicious bread.

We split the bread pudding on the suggestion of our server, and that was a truly great choice: rich and decadent, the bread pudding was the perfect last bit of sweetness before we walked around in Hyde Park.

Another time, I took my mom to the restaurant when she came to visit. We had a delicious lunch, starting with a mozzarella and pesto toast appetizer. We split the kale caesar salad, which was absolutely amazing. The salad had Brussels sprouts, pecans, and tart cherries, beyond the base of kale. I opted for the black bean burger, which came with a roasted corn hummus and avocado topping.

On Swann’s Serving Sizes & Prices

Overall, we were struck by the generous serving sizes of each dish — even the dessert. We were particularly struck with this when compared to the prices. On the brunch menu, most dishes were between 13 and 17 dollars, and many could easily be split. Beyond main dishes, though, On Swann offers a variety of “nibbles,” shared boards, and starters with the most expensive of those being the shared boards. Based on quantity and quality, On Swann is a great deal.
