Right from the prologue, this book drew me in and held my attention close. “When books are your life…,” it starts out, “you get pretty good at guessing where a story is going.” Still, though, Book Lovers by Emily Henry managed to surprise me, with plenty of emotional and evocative twists and turns throughout its pages. Full of witty banter and poignant moments, Book Lovers is a must-read for any…well…book lover.
Happy Place is a must-read for anyone in their late-twenties and early-thirties, experiencing the growing pains of adulthood that no one really warns you about. Following a group of college friends on their last trip to a beloved cottage — their happy place — this book made me laugh, cry, and everything in between.
Maria follows the story of Maria von Trapp, the protagonist famously played by Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music. I was aware that I knew little of Maria or the von Trapps when I began the book, but I was shocked by the depth of the woman’s character, brought to life by Michelle Moran in her latest novel. February was a varied month for me when it comes to what I read. Starting out strong with the new Crescent City book and closing it out with a less-than-stellar ACOTAR audiobook production, the books in between spanned genres and interests. I didn’t finish one book, but it was so boring it’s not worth mentioning here. Overall, I would recommend all of the books listed below for your TBR!

If you’re a lover of female-forward ancient historical fiction, do yourself a favor and go ahead and order Neferura by Malayna Evans. Centering on Neferura, the princess and high priestess of Kemet, the novel follows as she navigates high stakes politics of the Egyptian Court. With enemies everywhere — the most threatening of which is her half brother — Neferura has to learn quickly who she can and cannot trust.
It was naive of me to think compiling my list of the best books of 2023 would be easy! This list started as a top ten list, then a top ten standalone book list plus a list of series, and ultimately to 14 individual books and 11 series. When I say series, these range from huge multi-volume stories like Throne of Glass to a handful of two-volume duologies.
