Emerald Green Wedding Cake Inspiration: Colorful Wedding Ideas

Inspiration for an Emerald Green Wedding Cake

As with almost any aspect of wedding planning, you can go one of many different ways when it comes to wedding cakes. Whether you opt for something classic and traditional, or for something a bit more colorful and avant garde, there are a number of ways you can get the perfect emerald green wedding cake of your dreams! Here, I’m sharing a handful of emerald green themed wedding cakes I’ve found on Pinterest to spark your own imagination. The cakes will be separated into two categories. First, I’m sharing lighter or more minimal options. Second, I’ll be sharing the darker, more jewel tone styles of wedding cake.

Green Wedding Cakes Offer a Broad Palette

As I alluded to above, there are a lot of options to choose from if you decide to go with a green cake. The color lends itself to a variety of wedding themes and styles, including rustic and bucolic, romantic and elegant, pastoral and natural, and woodland romance.

For me, as I plan my emerald green themed wedding, I lean towards both elegant and earthy romance themes.* Many of the cakes I’ve seen and share here feature flowers or foliage of some kind. This is either through frosting or with actual branches of greenery or flowers.

For your own cake, you can use as many or as few of these details as you’d like. In my searches, it seems that these accents are great options for adding in more color to your wedding cake. This way, you can either add in a second color from your wedding theme or just more color generally.

*Update: Since I wrote this article during our wedding planning period, I have updated the end of the article with photos of our actual cake! You’ll see the inspiration we pulled from the photos here, along with the dessert spread we decided to go with alongside the traditional cake.

Please note, I found all of these images via Pinterest.
I’m adding linked sources where they were available.

Lighter Options for Green Wedding Cakes

Lighter green cakes can either start with a totally white/off-white base and feature green accents, like three of the four featured here, or the cake itself could be frosted with a softer green. The first cake below features a light herby green color, which accents the attached flowers and painted floral designs beautifully. The second cake then illustrates how one might use gold or another such accent to make the whole cake pop, especially when the texture contrasts with the earthy leaves incorporated into the design.

The third and fourth options both feature white bases with broader reaching accents. If you’re looking for a smaller, simpler cake, the third option here is perfect, with subtle texture and earthy green throughout. If you want a taller wedding cake, something like the four-tiered fourth design below might be ideal for you. The trailing effect of the greenery on the fourth cake is also rather lovely and elegant, bringing together the rustic and romantic themes well.

Bolder Examples of an Emerald Wedding Cake

Now, when someone says they want a green wedding cake, these cakes might be more what come to mind. Bold and stylized, these emerald green wedding cake designs are eye-catching and engaging. The first two options feature a softer green, something between a forest and and emerald. Contrast the piped frosting flowers with the live stems on these cakes; which style do you prefer?

The second set are more jewel toned emeralds, with gold accents to complement the motif. The third cake pictured here is a little bit rustic, a little bit lux, with a simple tier structure and almost-abstract frosted flowers. For the fourth cake, the inclusion of moody oxblood/maroon flowers adds even more drama to the four-tiered structure.

Our Wedding Cake – A Post-Wedding Update:

We worked with Hands on Sweets here in Tampa for our wedding cake and dessert spread. Chef Marie was great and her team was super helpful in planning and staging the desserts at our venue (see the horizontal photo below for more detail). Plus, I secretly told Chef Marie about my dress’s Lily of the Valley print so she made sugar flowers of it to decorate the top of the cake, but kept it hidden so Brett wouldn’t find out ahead of time.

All of the desserts were all such a hit, and Brett and I are grateful that our wedding coordinator saved us a few of the little desserts for the end of the night. We had a ton of cake left over, which is not a bad problem to have, and we enjoyed it for a good while after the wedding.

The bottom layer of the cake was a cinnamon cake with buttercream frosting, while the top two layers were vanilla cake with cookies and cream frosting (my favorite!). It was so fun to be able to customize the flavors!

Choosing Your Perfect Green Cake

I know that, for me, even narrowing down my inspiration searches on Pinterest to a specific color or theme brought up an incredible number of ideas. Breaking down the styles, textures, and features of the cakes you find yourself drawn to can help. Once you know what you like and want, it’ll be so much easier to discuss and collaborate with your perfect baker!
