Pinellas Ale Works Brewery in St. Petersburg, Florida

Pinellas Ale Works in St. Pete

I had been wanting to visit Pinellas Ale Works (also known as PAW) ever since I heard about its commitment to supporting rescue animals. PAW works hard to brew “doggone good beer” while hosting monthly charity events for rescue animals and maintaining one of the most dog-friendly breweries in the Tampa/St. Pete area. If you love craft beer and rescue dogs, you’re sure to love PAW!

Visiting PAW

This brewery had been on my to-visit list for a while, so I’m really glad I got a chance to stop in! It’s right down the street from Tombolo Books, my destination for the day, so it was easy to pop in after I did a bit of shopping. The vibe in the brewery was pretty casual and chill, so if I had been on my own, I definitely would have pulled a book out to start reading right then and there. A great way to spend a day in St. Pete, if you ask me!

Plus, I’m a total cat lady (see, e.g., my Cat Mom Life content), but I did grow up with dogs. One of my favorite part of any brewery is getting to hang out with other peoples’ dogs (that is, dogs I can play with but don’t take care of). PAW has no shortage of such dogs. With mason jars of dog treats to hand out on each table, brewery pups are encouraged, and there are plenty of spaces to hang out with your BFF both inside the brewery and in their outdoor beer garden.

About PAW’s Beers

PAW opened in 2016 and now distributes their beer throughout the surrounding counties. Many of their beers are dog themed, with names like Pawbock (a German Maibock), Doggy Paddle (a summer shandy), and Pomeranian Porter (a Baltic Porter).

Besides the cute names, one of the first things I noticed about the tap list at PAW was the sheer volume. Their tap list is lengthy, to say the least, offering a huge variety of beer styles. With the amount of variety they offer, it’d be a great spot for larger groups or adventurous beer drinkers!

My Favorites from Pinellas Ale Works

I really enjoyed their Off the Leash West Coast IPA and the year-round Oktoberfest Festbier. Since I grew up with some great Pomeranians, I had to get a sample of the Pomeranian Porter to try. While porters are not generally my favorite style, I am happy to report this one was quite delicious!

So, check out Pinellas Ale Works for some tasty beer and dog watching, as there will surely be no shortage of sweet pups hanging out with their humans!
