Lucky for us history lovers, there is no dearth of great historical fiction about Medieval England. As a history lover myself, I enjoy exploring this time period through the lens of fiction. From stories based on iconic figures and royalty to historical fiction about the plague and other calamities, historical fiction humanizes the past in remarkable ways. Here, I’ll be sharing some of the best historical fiction about Medieval England and early Renaissance.
As my favorite historical figure, I have read a number of great books about Mary, Queen of Scots. Mary Stuart has long been a romanticized figure in Scottish and British history, a doomed queen set up for failure against her formidable cousin, Queen Elizabeth I. Mary’s story is so much more than her downfall, though. Here, I’ll be sharing some of the best books I’ve read on Mary Stuart, in the hopes that you might enjoy learning more about this important, and often-misunderstood historical queen!
I’m not going to lie, I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump since finishing Funny Story last month. As a mood reader, I haven’t been able to find what *mood* I want to read, if that makes sense? Despite all this, though, I did read a number of good books this month; here are my reviews of each!
As a devoted admirer of Mary Stuart, I hold historical fiction about Mary’s life to high standards. I am pleased to say that The Tower by Flora Carr met — and exceeded — those expectations. Read my full book review here:
This month, my reading was heavy on the historical fiction — just the way I like it! From mythological retellings of Medusa’s sad tale to sapphic Victorian vampires, the books I read in June really ran the gamut, timeline wise. Read on for everything I read in June — I hope it helps fill up your TBR list!
