About the Author, Rachel Burton

I deeply enjoyed Rachel Burton’s writing. And when I came to her author’s bio at the end of the book, I realized why. Burton’s bio closely aligns with my own experiences, which was a fun surprise for me after enjoying her rich storytelling. Like me, after studying Classics and English Literature in college, Burton “accidentally fell into a career in law.” Further, “[Burton] loves words, Shakespeare, tea, The Beatles, dresses with pockets and very tall romantic heroes (not necessarily in that order) and lives with her husband and two cats in Yorkshire.” A true kindred spirit!

About The Last Party at Silverton Hall

In all, The Last Party at Silverton Hall is a thought provoking tale. The story moves back and forth in time with easy as the reader is introduced to two protagonists. First in time is Vivien, the grandmother of the second protagonist, Isobel. The story opens just after Vivien’s passing, when Isobel returns to the Norfolk coast to take up the mantle of her grandmother’s manor house.

Isobel is a bit lost herself at the start of the novel. She is introduced to the reader when she is between jobs, unhappy with her career choices, and fresh out of a romantic relationship that has shaken her confidence. The move to Norfolk is just what she needed, but also more work than anticipated. Luckily, she finds help in the way of an old flame….
