Why I Love Water Based Moisturizers

As someone with combination, acne-prone skin, I know how important a good moisturizer is in my skin care routine. I’ve had many a run-in with formulas that break me out and irritate my skin. Luckily, though, I discovered water-based moisturizers, which I pretty much exclusively use at this point. These formulas are far gentler on the skin, I find. They offer lightweight, non-clogging moisture and hydration and can’t be beat.

The Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream from Youth to the People

I’ve used the Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream from Youth to the People for a number of years now. It is one of my favorite water based moisturizers on the market. As someone with sensitive, acne-prone skin, I find that this gentle formula works well with my skin, providing great moisture without clogging pores or feeling overly heavy or greasy.

The Details

SUPERFOOD AIR-WHIP MOISTURE CREAM 2-min

This Youth to the People moisturizer comes in the form of a lightweight gel designed to visibly plump the skin and provide extended hydration, lasting up to 48 hours. The formula is also designed to rapidly strengthen the skin’s natural moisture barrier, providing a healthy, natural glow that will not clog pores or interact with makeup.

This moisturizer can be used both day and night, after cleansing the skin. Don’t stop with just your face, either; the formula is great on the neck and chest, as well.

Relatedly, Youth to the People recommends using the moisturizer as a makeup primer! Since the cream is lightweight and fast-absorbing, you can apply a light layer before makeup, both for hydration and as a makeup primer. Alternatively, try mixing a small bit of it with your foundation for extra smooth application.

The Ingredients

Youth to the People’s Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream features a proprietary blend of kale, spinach, green tea, alfalfa, and Vitamins C and E. According to the brand, the kale helps leave the skin visibly glowing, thanks to the phytonutrients and vitamins C and E it offers. The Hyaluronic Acid, on the other hand, is a natural hydrator that helps the skin retain moisture. Lastly, green tea‘s antioxidants help to fight signs of aging.

Skin Type & Skin Concerns

This water based moisturizer is designed to target fine lines and wrinkles, as well as general dryness (making it great for cooler weather!), loss of firmness, and skin elasticity.

The Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream is suitable for all skin types, whether you have normal, combination, or oily skin. It is safe to use on acne-prone skin, as I mentioned above. It should not cause irritation to even sensitive skin. Furthermore, the moisturizer does not have an artificial scent to it; it smells light, fresh, and clean. I have never had issues relating to the scent, and my skin is quite sensitive to perfumes or added scents.

Why I Love this Water Based Moisturizer

Dove tailing from the specs and details of this lightweight moisturizer, I wanted to add a bit about why I, personally, love this formula. As I mentioned, I have sensitive, acne-prone skin. I am also prone to eczema on my neck and chest. Furthermore, I live in Florida, where we have a good deal of humidity and heat. So, it is important to me to have a gentle, effective moisturizer that doesn’t feel too oppressive on the skin.

The Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream is super lightweight and easy to smooth into the skin before makeup, should I apply it in the mornings. It never feels like it’s clogging the skin, and it dries to a nice, non-greasy finish. The formula is even a bit cooling, which makes it feel great on the skin during warmer months. A little goes a long way, as well, so a 2 oz. jar tends to last me at least two months.

Further, when it comes to a breakout, this moisturizer seems to sooth irritated skin and help to mute the redness that comes from a breakout. Similarly, it has never interacted negatively with the eczema prone skin on my neck and chest. On the contrary, it seems to help sooth minor flare ups on that skin, as well.
