My Honest Thoughts on Hill House’s Adeline Dress
As a lover of all things plaid and Nap Dress related, I was thrilled to see the Adeline Dress from Hill House in their latest drop. This is a new style dress for the brand, a bit of a departure from their traditional smocked Nap Dress silhouette. The Adeline dress is an oversized mini dress, loose and billowy, and currently available in three colors. Here, I wanted to share my honest thoughts on the dress, how it fits, and whether I would recommend it to fellow Nap Dress lovers!

The Adeline Dress’ Fit
First thing’s first — how does Hill House’s Adeline dress fit? The dress is styled to be a looser, oversized fit, but still hits well above the knee. If you are broader in the shoulders and chest, definitely size up! There is little give in the fabric, and the torso is a bit snug compared to the size of the skirt. The arms, as well, run small compared to the overall look of the dress and lack meaningful stretch.
As far as normal Hill House Nap Dress sizing, the Adeline is a bit different. I originally ordered a medium, due to the lack of smocking. Typically, I am a small in Hill House’s Nap Dresses — particularly, the Ellie. However, the medium Adeline was tight in the shoulders and arms. I returned it and ordered a large in its place. The large fits well, giving me that oversized, casual fit that you see on the model online. If there had been something between a medium and large, though, I think that would have been perfect for me.
Features of Hill House’s New Adeline Dress
The Length
The Adeline Dress from Hill House is a departure from their famous Nap Dresses, first, because of the lack of smocking. It is also unique, though, due to its length. Many of the Hill House dress styles are midi-length dresses, while this is a true mini. Fans of the brand online seemed disappointed with the length, finding it too short for comfort.
As a five foot tall woman, though, I quite like the length. I felt comfortable with where it hit on my leg, even when I tried it on in the medium before I swapped for a large. It is easy to wear shorts under it, too, or tights, thanks to the loose skirt shape.
It Has Pockets!
This dress has pockets! And good sized pockets, too. I could easily fit my phone in them and not worry about it falling out. I did feel like the phone weighed the dress down a bit, but it’s worth it to not have to hold it the whole day.
Keyhole Button on the Back
The Adeline dress doesn’t have a zipper and is designed as a pull over dress. To assist with this, though, it does have a keyhole opening in the back with a delicate little button closure. Definitely take your glasses off before pulling the dress on, even with the button undone!
