New Year’s Eve Means Sequins…Right?
Christmas is over, but that doesn’t mean there’s no occasion for sparkly clothes anymore. New Year’ Eve is around the corner and the perfect time to break out a fun party dress, no matter what you wind up doing to celebrate. It’s the end of a decade, after all. Might as well make the most of it! I compiled some of the New Year’s Eve outfit ideas that are calling my name the loudest. I’m partial to dresses — they’re one and done, no worries about mixing and matching pieces — but I found a few great separates that could be great with your staple pair of dark jeans.
Separates
The separates I found are from three of my favorite brands — Whistles, Ted Baker, and Free People. The Whistles tops have a higher price point — fair warning — but they both stood out to me as so effortless and stylish that they could easily become staple wardrobe pieces throughout the year. I think this is especially so with the Cheetah top — how great would this be with dark jeans or black pants (as pictured) for a nice dinner out?
If you’re looking for a more affordable option that is more clearly wearable throughout the year, I’d recommend the Ted Baker tee. These t-shirts are so versatile and well worth their price, in my opinion. I don’t have this particular Metallic Tee, but I do have a number of other motifs of the same style and love them. I’m also really impressed with how they hold up with washing (I recommend hanging them to dry).
Lastly, the Free People In a Bubble Metallic Mini Skirt is just such a fun option. Wear it with more utilitarian shoes, like the ones pictured, or something dressier — might I recommend Jack Rogers or Sam Edelman flats? — and a black top and you’re good to go!

Dresses
Now, onto the dresses. As far as New Year’s Eve outfit ideas go, I think there are a ton of great dress options out there at a variety of price points. So, if you’re like me and prefer dresses, there’s a ton of great options.
I split the two sets of dresses up into what I saw as two themes. The first group features the blues and greens, as well as similarly styled black dresses. The second offers brighter reds or more casual looks.
I’m really obsessed with the AllSaints Fleur Wing Pleated Dress. I saw this when we were in Georgia and was immediately drawn to the color and pattern. I really wish I had tried it on at that point. AllSaints dresses are amazing — so well crafted and styled. Like Ted Baker, the price points for AllSaints are generally lower than you might expect. That’s not to say these are low cost options — their dresses usually run between $200 and $400 in my experience — but for the craftsmanship, design, and style involved, I think they’re totally worth it.
Like the Fleur Wing dress, the AllSaints Nichola Plume Smocked Dress is high on my list. Plus it has pockets so that’s pretty amazing. I love this color motif and the dress style — when I was visiting family in New York this summer, I tried on a more purple version of the style and loved it (which is still available at Bloomingdale’s, by the way, and on sale!.

Dress the Population Alicia Mixed Media Midi Dress
For dressier options, I recommend checking out the Dress the Population Alicia Mixed Media dress from Nordstrom. I found this while perusing their website and was struck by the neckline and a-line skirt. It’s reminiscent of Mrs. Maisel — just finished season 3, so good! — and classic. I haven’t tried this brand before, but it seems promising!

Volcom Not My Luv Cami Dress – Reformation Scarpetta Sleeveless Mini Dress
Beyond the AllSaints dresses calling my name, though, this Free People Mirror, Mirror velvet mini keeps popping up for me. I saw it on Nordstrom’s website a few weeks ago and keep looking back to it. It comes in two colors — the red pictured, as well as a blue/purple motif — and, honestly, the red is more intriguing for me. This is surprising to me, since I typically go for blues when available. It’s a little pricy at $168, but could be totally worth it. Might have to order it and try it on for myself…!
