Unique Cat Furniture – Stylish Cat Trees, Scratching Posts, & Fancy Cat Furniture

Our Cats Deserve Quality, Unique Cat Furniture

Once, having a cat-friendly home might have meant sacrificing personal style, but that is no longer the case. In the past few years, we’ve seen the growth of stylish and unique cat furniture and accessories. This allows us cat lovers to give our furbabies their best lives possible without sacrificing the look and feel of our homes.

My goal in this post is to share unique cat furniture that accentuates your home decor, rather than detracting from it, all while creating a comfortable and engaging environment for your cats and kittens. Priorities when looking for unique cat furniture include, first and foremost, comfort and quality, followed by design and functionality.

Read on for ways to incorporate stylish cat furniture — including cat trees, scratchers, and so on — into your home. Be sure to join my mailing list to keep up to date on the latest in Cat Mom Life!

What to Look for in Stylish Cat Furniture

Whether you’re a new cat mom or a veteran in the way of felines, when starting your search for pretty cat furniture, consider neutral colors and finishes — whether they are fabric or wood — and the quality of the materials used.

You’ll also want to assess the amount of space you can dedicate to cat trees or scratchers. If you’re looking to save space, consider adding various types of cat furniture on walls — stairs, scratchers, beds, and so on. When creating a cat-friendly space, adding a vertical or climbing component is never a bad idea!

At this point, you’ll also want to consider your budget for this project. In order to get unique and quality cat towers and furniture, the price point will necessarily be higher than some of the less aesthetic pieces you can find online. However, while some pieces are a bit of a splurge, they are designed to last and withstand whatever your cat can throw at them.

Unique Cat Furniture: Trees and Towers That Are Actually Pretty

When it comes to cat furniture, there are a couple standard styles: the cat tree, cat scratchers, and cat hammocks. Oftentimes, cat trees will come with scratcher sand hammocks, or you can opt for individual pieces of each.

Cat trees will give you the most height options, typically ranging from around 30 inches in height to 70 inches in height.

As far as aesthetic cat towers go, it is hard to compete with Mau Cat Trees. Mau has a handful of cat tree styles, ranging in sizes and styles, and you can buy replacement parts should you need them. We have had the Cento style cat tower in white for almost three years now and it has held up incredibly well. I’ve not had to replace any part of the tree, even though my cats use it daily. Check out my full review of this pretty cat tree here for more details.

Aside from Mau’s cat towers, there has been a proliferation of pretty cat trees for design-minded cat moms to choose from. For me, I’m drawn to this taller, darker option, which offers both whimsy and sleek design. For more of a solid design, this option from Wayfair is both unique and modern, with a cozy cubby cats are sure to love! From unique color options to the downright whimsical, there is now a style for every cat and every cat mom:

Cat Furniture for Walls: Modern & Space-Saving Picks

Along with the expansion of aesthetic cat trees, there has been a lot of new options for cat furniture for walls in the past few years. These are great for all kinds of spaces, but particularly for smaller space homes or apartments. While there are certainly cool jungle gym kind of options, cat furniture for walls and small spaces can be as simple as this wall-mounted sisal cat scratcher.

Cats love to stretch and climb, two activities that benefit from vertical space. Scratchers attached to the wall (like this one) allow cats to satisfy two desires at once: the desires to stretch and to scratch. Relatedly, climbing helps keep your cat active and intellectually stimulated.

For multi-cat homes, vertical space can be helpful because it gives cats ways to get away from each other for a while. If you’re having issues with cats getting along, check out my guide to cat introductions here and maybe consider incorporating calming pheromones into your cats’ areas.

Stylish Cat Scratchers That Save Your Furniture

Like I mentioned above, cats love — and, in fact, need — to scratch. If you don’t provide them with an appropriate place to scratch, they’ll turn to your furniture. So, finding suitable cat scratching posts will help save your furniture and keep your furbaby entertained!

It used to be that cat scratchers all looked like boring cardboard boxes. Now, though, there are pretty and stylish options, like this gorgeous option from Catenary pictured to the left (plus a pretty toy they make, as well!).

Scratchers now range from minimalist to colorful, with multi-purpose designs or designs ideal for multi-cat homes. Some even come as handy end tables like this one – super handy for both us and our cats!

My cats tend to like the vertical sisal style cat scratchers; they are durable and satisfying for the cats to scratch on, and typically aren’t very expensive.

While most cat trees will come with some sort of scratcher included (this is a great example of such a combo), I recommend getting at least one stand-alone cat scratching post. My cats seem to like both, but they do their most intense scratching on posts like these.

If your cat doesn’t take to a scratcher right away — or if you just want to add a little more joy to their day — consider picking up a good catnip spray like this one to encourage their play. And if you’re curious about why (most) cats love catnip, check out my catnip FAQ guide here for all the details!

Cat Beds & Perches That Feel Like Home Decor

When it comes to cat beds and perches, there are plenty of options that are at once comfy cozy for cats and suitable for your home decor style. Whether your cat loves cave style beds, hammock stands, or heated options, there is no shortage of aesthetic cat bed options.

We keep plenty of cat beds around, including two of these hammock cat trees, which are always a hit with my cats. While they’re technically considered cat trees, I group them in with beds because they are primarily used for that purpose, and the added height makes them great perches to place by windows for cat tv.

As for stylish cat beds, these felted cat caves and ever-popular ball style beds like this one come in a range of colors and fabrics, so you’ll have no trouble finding one suitable for your home decor style.

Our cat beds tend to collect fur more than any other cat furniture in the house, so I recommend picking up some of these Uproot Clean pet hair removers to help with cleaning hair off of soft furnishings. They also have a great deshedder brush, which can help when shedding season comes around!

Cat Mom Extras: Art, Decor, & Little Luxuries

Aside from picking aesthetic and unique cat furniture, you can also pretty up your space with some extra decor that complement your home vibe.

Pick a fun piece of cat art and a pretty frame, for example, and hang it near your new cat tree. Opt for cute cat bowls for food and water — or a sleek pet fountain like the one we just got — to accentuate mealtimes. Lastly, consider cat toy clutter, and find an attractive basket or bin that suits your home style.
