Wandering Bear Coffee: Convenient Cold Brew Coffee at Home

Wandering Bear Cold Brew Coffee

When it comes to coffee, I can be rather particular, so I was curious to see how Wandering Bear Coffee compared to my usual at home iced coffees. The Wandering Bear Coffee company creates a variety of cold brew coffees in convenient single-serve, carton, or large tapped container options. Cold brew can be hit or miss with me, since many versions of this style tend to have a sharp or bitter taste. This is not the case with Wandering Bear, though! With a smooth flavor and mild taste, this cold brew is rapidly becoming a new must-have for me, especially when one considers the different flavors it comes in! Here, I’ll be sharing my honest review of the Wandering Bear Coffee mocha cold brew coffee, along with my experience trying out their “cold brew on tap” gallon box:

About Wandering Bear

As a company, Wandering Bear is passionate about brewing “really good coffee.” Using a mix of organic coffee from Peru, Mexico, and Nicaragua, Wandering Bear creates extra strong coffee with a surprisingly smooth flavor profile. They also maintain a “latest-trend-certified” promise, meaning that the coffees they brew and sell work with whatever kind of diet you may be on — paleo, keto, vegan, and so on. The cold brew products are ready for customization, so add your favorite milks or creamers to make your cup your own!

Cold Brew Varieties from Wandering Bear Coffee

With a robust menu of coffee types and flavors, you may have a hard time picking just one flavor to try. For my first box, I opted for a classic mocha cold brew. Other regular flavors include vanilla, caramel, and hazelnut. You can also opt for specialty or seasonal flavors, like dirty vanilla chai (which I might have to try next!) or pumpkin spice. Of course, you can also order your cold brew plain or as decaf.

Pro tip: check out the “secret menu” tab on their website for special flavors that you can’t otherwise get in their shop. At the time of writing this, the secret menu offers a peppermint mocha and hazelnut flavor Brew on Tap boxes — both of which sound delightful, if you ask me!

My Experience with Wandering Bear Coffee’s Cold Brew

Mocha Taste Test

Normally, I don’t go for flavored coffees when I’m first trying out a brand, but Wandering Bear had too many highly-rated options to pass up. Mocha is such a classic coffee flavor, I felt like it would give me a good idea of the brand’s quality and flavor profile.

Sure enough, I loved it! The mocha cold brew has a definite mocha flavor to it, without being overwhelming or sweet (it’s sugar free, by the way). If it were hot coffee, I would think someone simply swirled a bit of high quality chocolate in the coffee to create the flavor.

ACOTAR Vintage Style Coffee Glass

A word of warning to anyone new to the world of cold brew: Cold brew coffee is strong. Each glass of the Wandering Bear coffee is equivalent to two espresso shots.

As someone who is pretty sensitive to caffeine, I’ve really had to remind myself of this when I go for the easy-to-use tap in my refrigerator.

For my morning cup, I’ve been adding almond milk and a splash of my favorite sweet cream coffee creamer. Together with the rich coffee and mocha flavor, it tastes a bit like an affogato and I am absolutely loving it!

P.S. everything tastes even better out of my ACOTAR cupmore on the series here!

Easy-to-Use Coffee on Tap Packaging

Wandering Bear was the first to make boxed cold brew coffees, which means they’ve had time to perfect their bag-in-box Coffee on Tap design. The packaging is 100% recyclable, and it is designed to keep the coffee fresh even after opening. The brand is dedicated to sustainability, so the Coffee on Tap box is just one of the ways they’re practicing their dual goals to both make a strong product and “keep Mother Nature just as strong.”

Coffee on Tap from Wandering Bear Coffee

A quick note on recycling: it’s so easy! To recycle the Coffee on Tap box, separate the bag and the box once you finish the coffee. The bag can be recycled with mixed plastic recycling, while the box gets recycled with regular paper and cardboard!

Before you open the Coffee on Tap packs, you can store them anywhere (IE: not in the fridge); just remember to refrigerate after opening! The box itself is pretty compact and easy to maneuver. It does take up a bit of space in the fridge, so I did play a bit of Tetris with it at first.

The tap is so easy to use and it doesn’t leak at all! I just pull the box over the lip of its shelf and pour however much I want into a glass and go on with my morning.

Where to Buy Wandering Bear Coffee

Wandering Bear is available from their online shop in a variety of package options, including the 96 ounce pack I reviewed here, which starts at $35.99 a box, with discounts for multiple boxes. The coffees also come in 32 ounce and 11 ounce cartons. They have a membership program that gives you access to specialty pricing, flash sales, and early access to limited-edition flavors.
