My shop Critter Crafting specializes in Cat Mats, handmade crochet pet blankets for cats and small dogs. All of Critter Crafting grew out of a desire to keep the furbabies in my life comfy cozy — really, the epitome of Cat Mom Life! My unique Cat Mats are high quality pieces that will add a pop of both color and comfort to any home. Each Cat Mat comes “pre-nipped” with my cats’ favorite catnip spray, so they’re sure to be an instant hit!
Critter Crafting’s Cat Mats are little handmade pet blankets for cats. They are designed as simple pleasures for feline companions, who so often enjoy a nice cat nap in the sun. The Cat Mats are unique pieces — not unlike our furbabies — with most styles being truly one-of-a-kind.
Handmade Crochet Pet Blankets for Cats
I started making Cat Mats for Louis as carrier liners and the project took off from there. The fact that he and later Emory and Olivia took to these little pet blankets so quickly only validated my theory that cats enjoy having cozy things to lay on.
That being said, Cat Mats also make great capes or throw blankets for your furbaby. Here is my cat, Olivia, and an Instagram cat friend Tequila, demonstrate the cape method of use; meanwhile, my friend’s cat, Lionel, and my mom’s cat Lilly demonstrate the blanket method.

What Is a Cat Mat, Exactly?
Put simply, a Critter Crafting Cat Mats are handmade crochet pet blankets for cats. Think of them as little throw blankets for your furbaby. Ideal for lounging at home or to add comfort for travel, Cat Mats are made with kittens, cats, and small dogs in mind.
Cat Mats are the perfect pet bedding for carriers or crates. I love to use them as liners for cat trees in our home.
Pro tip: hide treats or kibble under these little pet blankets to help keep your cat entertained!
Are Cat Mats Only for Cats?
While I originally made my Cat Mats with cats in mind, they are certainly suitable for small dogs as well. Can’t let the little pups feel left out!
The Cat Mats in my shop are good sizes for small dogs (think under 15 pounds). That being said, I am more than happy to create a custom order Dog Mat for you based on your size specifications. I have crocheted a number of Dog Mats, either as custom orders or as gifts for family and friends. There is more information on custom orders below.

How Big are Critter Crafting’s Cat Mats?
Each of the listings in my shop will have their dimensions in the product details, but the majority of my Critter Crafting Cat Mats measure approximately 15 inches by 15 inches.
I say approximately for two reasons. First, because there is some natural variation due to the handmade nature of the pet blankets. Second, I say this because the Cat Mats stretch out a bit with use, wash, and wear. This is perfectly natural and to be expected.

How Much Do the Cat Mats Cost?
The majority of my Critter Crafting Cat Mats cost between $20 and $25.
Cat Mats start at $15 for smaller blankets. Larger varieties or those with unique features and yarns are typically $30.
Are the Cat Mats Machine Washable?
All of my Critter Crafting Cat Mats are machine washable and can be dried in the dryer like a regular blanket.
As these are designed to be handmade crochet pet blankets for cats, I wanted to ensure that they would be low maintenance and easy to care for. The yarn I use only gets softer with washing, so you don’t need to hesitate before laundering them.
Do Cat Nails Get Stuck in the Yarn?
I’ve gotten this question a few times; cat nails don’t get stuck or tangled in the yarn. I’ve never had an issue with this. If any of my cats have gotten a claw stuck, they’ve managed to unhook themselves just fine.
Are Critter Crafting’s Cat Mats Durable?
My Critter Crafting Cat Mats are extremely durable. I craft these little handmade blankets with pet safe, machine washable yarn that is able to take a beating. Whether your furbaby likes to wrestle with it or simply lounge on it, the Cat Mat will last you a long time.
For example, as I write this, Louis is lounging on the original Cat Mat that I made almost seven years ago when I first adopted him! How’s that for durability?
Does Critter Crafting Offer Custom Cat Mats?
Yes, absolutely! While my shop offers a wide variety of colors and Cat Mat styles, I know that sometimes your furbaby has very particular design desires.

How Long Do Custom Cat Mats or Dog Mats Take?
Typically, it will take about two weeks for a custom Cat Mat or Dog Mat order. This timeline can vary depending on a few things. First, it depends on whether I have to order specific yarn for the project (which I am more than happy to do!). Second, it depends on the size of the desired pet blanket. Naturally, larger projects will take a bit longer.
In either way, I will keep you in the loop on estimated timeline and keep you apprised of any changes if they come up.
